L’UIT (Union internationale des télécommunications) est l’organisation internationale chargée de la normalisation des télécommunications à l’échelon mondial. Basée à Genève (Suisse), elle est l’une des 16 agences spécialisées des Nations Unies, avec 191 Etats membres et 640 membres du secteur privé. Les gouvernements et le secteur privé travaillent de concert pour créer ou normaliser les protocoles nécessaires, et coordonner l’organisation des réseaux et services de télécommunications. Par ailleurs, l’UIT gère la base terminologique Termite (Terminology of Telecommunications) dans six langues (anglais, arabe, chinois, espagnol, français, russe). -
3 protocole
Un protocole est un standard défini par des organismes patentés pour gérer la circulation des données. Les principaux protocoles de l’internet sont les suivants: TCP/IP (transmission control protocol / internet protocol) pour l’échange des données, FTP (file transfer protocol) pour le transfert des fichiers et HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) pour le transfert des pages web. Ces protocoles sont régis par le consortium W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), organisme international fondé en octobre 1994 pour développer les protocoles communs nécessaires au développement du web. Ces protocoles font également l’objet de normes ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) et de normes UIT (Union internationale des télécommunications). -
4 VDSL
(very high rate DSL)Validé en 2003 par l’UIT (Union internationale des télécommunications), le standard VDSL (very high rate DSL) est une technologie d’accès internet à haut débit utilisant le câble téléphonique en cuivre, avec un débit théorique de 50 Mbps (mégabits par seconde) en réception et 25 Mbps en émission. Ce débit est très supérieur à celui du DSL (digital subscriber line) ou de l’ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) standard. Le VDSL permet aux opérateurs de télécommunications de faire concurrence aux fournisseurs par câble et par satellite, notamment pour la télévision haute définition. Le VDSL2 (very high rate DSL, version 2) est validé par l’IUT en mai 2005. Son débit théorique est de 100 Mbps (mégabits par seconde), en réception comme en émission. Il permet de fournir des services tels que la télévision haute définition, la vidéo à la demande, la visioconférence ou la la téléphonie sur IP (internet protocol). -
